2016 Currie Cup
The 2016 Currie Cup will be the 78th season of the Currie Cup since it started in 1889 and will be contested between April and October 2016. The tournament is South Africa's premier domestic rugby union competition.
==Competition==
As of August 2015, the format of the 2016 Currie Cup has not yet been finalised. Media reports in July 2015 suggested that the Currie Cup competition will be expanded to 18 teams, with the eight teams from the 2015 Currie Cup Premier Division, the six teams from the 2015 Currie Cup First Division and the national teams of , and all taking part in the expanded competition.
On 3 August 2015, Sybrand de Beer, the CEO of the Namibia Rugby Union, confirmed Namibia's participation in the 2016 Currie Cup.
It was later reported that Namibia would take part in an expanded 15-team competition, therefore excluding the previously-proposed Kenya and Zimbabwe. These teams would play against each other in a single round-robin stage, with the top nine teams after this stage progressing to the Currie Cup play-offs, while the remaining six teams will participate in the First Division. To accommodate the longer calendar, the Currie Cup would start earlier than in previous years, during the Super Rugby season.〔
